SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The No. 14 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team split Saturday's matches at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex, sweeping Santa Clara 5-0 before falling in a tight 3-2 battle against No. 6 Cal Poly.

GCU opened the day with a dominant performance against Santa Clara, winning all five flights. The Lopes picked up straight-set victories in Flights 1, 4, and 5, with Adriana Ferro and Katie Keefe securing a 21-11, 21-19 win in the top flight. Ines Piret and Rhea Kohl delivered one of the most thrilling matches of the day, taking an intense first set 31-29 before closing out their win 31-29, 21-15 in Flight 2. Karynn Garrow and Sophia Hladyniuk held strong in Flight 3, edging out a 21-18, 24-22 victory to complete the sweep.

In the evening match, GCU faced a tough challenge against sixth-ranked Cal Poly. The dual came down to the wire, with three flights going the distance. The Lopes picked up wins in Flights 3 and 5, as Becca Drake and Jessica Drake battled through a marathon first set to claim a 30-28, 12-21, 18-16 victory in Flight 3. Madi Bogle and Regan Holmer continued their strong play with a 21-19, 21-14 win in Flight 5. Cal Poly secured the win with straight-set victories in Flights 1 and 4, while Flight 2 was decided in a tight third set, 15-12, in favor of the Mustangs.

Grand Canyon will look to bounce back as they continue their road stretch.
