The 14th-ranked Grand Canyon beach volleyball team is on the road Saturday and Sunday to compete in four dual matches in San Luis Obispo for the Mustang Classic.
On Saturday, the Lopes will face Santa Clara at 2 p.m. and host No. 6 Cal Poly at 7 p.m. before Sunday matches against Houston Christian 11:30 a.m. and No. 17 Washington at 3:15 p.m. This will mark the first road match at Cal Poly since 2021, where the Lopes lost a tight one 3-2.
Scouting Santa Clara
- The Broncos have only played one ranked team before the Lopes, a 5-0 loss to Stanford on Mar. 1.
- GCU is 4-0 against Santa Clara dating back to 2017.
Scouting Cal Poly
- The Mustangs are 6-2 with losses against UCLA and LMU.
- Despite winning two of the last three, GCU trails Cal Poly all-time 6-3.
Scouting Houston Christian
- Houston Christian is currently 5-5.
- The Lopes are 2-0 against HCU, with the only two matches happening in 2018 and 2020.
Scouting Washington
- The Huskies are 7-6 after facing seven ranked opponents to begin the year.
- UW is 2-3 against GCU dating back to 2016.
What's next?
Following the four matches in San Louis Obispo, California GCU will head for East Meets West in Austin, Texas March 21-22.
