Two days after taking third at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Grand Canyon quickly resumes play with the two-day GCU Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday at GCU Golf Course in Phoenix.
The Lopes are one of 18 teams competing this week on the par-71 course. Tuesday's first round begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., followed by second-round action in the afternoon. Third-round play begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
GCU enters as the highest-ranking team in the Clippd Scoreboard rankings, with the full list of teams including: GCU (52), Pacific (61), New Mexico State (63), Arkansas State (78), Northern Illinois (127), CSU Fullerton (143), Austin Peay (145), Kansas City (167), Wichita State (168), St. Thomas (175), UC Riverside (192), Valparaiso (204), Northern Colorado (206), California Baptist (225), Omaha (239), Drake (240), UT Arlington (272) and Canisius (289).
The Lopes' starting five will change from their weekend action. Juniors
Sam Murphy and
Antonio Bulgheroni were added after Bulgheroni earned a top-20 finish in Scottsdale as an individual entry.
GCU freshman
Matthew Diehl, the medalist in Scottsdale with a 14-under score, will be the No. 1 for a team seeking a top-five home tournament finish for the fifth consecutive year. Graduate
Tommaso Zorzetto and senior
Kiko Coelho round out the starters.
