After a busy opening weekend that featured four opponents in four days, Grand Canyon will settle into a more traditional single-opponent series when it plays host to Rutgers. The Lopes and Scarlet Knights will play a four-game series beginning on Friday and continuing with a Saturday doubleheader and Sunday finale.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- BIG TEN LIVIN':Â The Lopes are amid a heavy stretch of Big Ten opposition, including the four-game series with Rutgers. Having just played and defeated No. 23 Nebraska on Monday, GCU also will play at new Big Ten member Oregon on March 11 and 12. The Lopes are amid a 14-game stretch in wihch half of their games will come against Big Ten members.
- TOP-25 TOPPLERS:Â GCU is coming off yet another top-25 win. The Lopes limited No. 23 Nebraska to four hits in a 3-1 victory on Monday at Brazell Field. GCU has won five of its last six games against top-25 teams, with its lone loss coming in a narrow 4-3 decision to No. 16 Vanderbilt on Opening Night.
- COMMANDING:Â It's nothing new for Lopes pitching, but GCU is already among the nation's leaders in controlling the zone. Through four games, the Lopes' strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.43 to 1 ranks 14th nationally and walking only 1.8 batters per nine innings ranks 11th nationally.

SCOUTING RUTGERS
Rutgers is coming off of a 28-25 season in which it ranked 77th in the NCAA RPI. The Scarlet Knights, however, only return 11 players from the 2024 squad.
Rutgers opened this season by winning two of three games at Kennesaw State, where it allowed only eight runs in three games for a 2.42 team ERA.

GCU will be off from midweek play and leave Arizona for the first time, playing a three-game series at Texas State next weekend.Â
