Lopes, Sun Devils clash at GCU on Tuesday night

Grand Canyon hosts crosstown Arizona State on Tuesday night at GCU Softball Stadium.

GCU sophomore catcher Tinley Lucas smacked two home runs with nine RBIs over the weekend. Her three-run home run against Washington helped the Lopes notch an early-season upset over a perennial power in the Huskies.
Lopes ophomore pitcher Maggie Place threw 10 innings over the weekend, just allowing one earned run. She earned a save in the Lopes' win over North Dakota and shut down the Huskies in critical moments of a Lopes win with eight strikeouts. Place moved to 3-1 on the season and has a 1.59 ERA.
The Lopes are batting .343 with a 1.75 ERA this season. That ERA ranks 25th in the country.

This will be the fifth matchup between GCU and ASU, with the all-time series split at 2-2. GCU won the last matchup, 5-4, last year at GCU Softball Stadium.
The Sun Devils are 7-3 on the season with losses to North Dakota and Belmont last weekend. The Lopes beat both of those teams this season. Arizona State beat Oregon in extra innings a couple days before the Lopes lost to the Ducks 4-0.
Arizona State is hitting .306 with a team ERA of 3.45.
ASU outfielder Kelsey Hall is hitting .500 through the first two weekends of the season. She has started every game.

Littlewood Classic

The Lopes went 4-1 over the past weekend at the Littlewood Classic.
GCU defeated Washington, Weber State, Belmont and North Dakota. The Lopes beat Washington for the first time in program history.
The Lopes only allowed 11 runs over the five games.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lopes co-host the GCU/ASU Classic with Arizona State over the next weekend. No. 2 Florida, New Mexico State, California Baptist, Iowa State and Portland State make the trip to Arizona to participate.
