Both matches will be streamed live on B1G+.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- FAMILIAR FACES FOR GIRTEN: Lopes coaches Jon Girten and Bryan Dell'Amico are set to lead the Lopes in the first match since the team competed in the Silver State Showcase in Reno on Feb. 1. Before joining GCU this season, Girten was a part of the Tritons staff for seven seasons with his first year coinciding with the inaugural season of Big West men's volleyball. Girten helped produce five 2023 All-Big West honorees. A quartet of Tritons also were selected to the Big West All-Freshman Team. Friday will mark the first match against his former squad.Â
- QUICK STATS: Coming into the week, junior Trent Moser ranks 10th in the country in hitting percentage with his .416 clip. The Lopes also sit at fourth in the country in blocks per set with 2.66. GCU middle blocker Cole Duncanson ranks 23rd with 1.07Â per set.Â
- HISTORY: The Lopes faced the Tritons twice last season, once at UCSD and once at a neutral site. GCU took both matches without dropping a set. GCU leads the all-time series 9-4 dating back to 2009.Â
SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO
UCSD had success early this season at home with a record of 6-1. The only loss came to unbeaten Loyola Chicago in a five-set battle. On the road, the Tritons are 3-1. UCSD ranks seventh in aces per set with 1.95. The Tritons are the best in the Big West at limiting the opponents offense, holding them to .195 hitting.Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lopes head to California to take on CSUN on Wednesday before playing at No.1 Long Beach State on Feb. 21. Â
