CARMEL, Calif. – Behind brilliant play from sophomore Måns Boje, Grand Canyon men's golf closed out the fall season with a top-five showing in the Preserve Golf Club Collegiate at the Saint Lucia Preserve in Carmel.
Boje seemed like he couldn't miss if he tried, notching 19 birdies to lead all 68 players in the field. His final scoreline totaled at 12 under (66/68/70) and was a key contributor to GCU's 16-under second round that was the tourney's best single-round score.
Second-round play concluded early Tuesday, followed by the final 18 holes. GCU shot 8 under in the first round and 16 under in the second round until a 6-over third round concluded a tournament that saw seven teams finish 12 under or better.
BYU, ranked 25th in the nation, won the tournament at 29 under. The Lopes shot 18 under for its first top-five placement of the season, moving their record to 25-27 after four fall tournaments.
Boje made five birdies Tuesday, tallying four over his final 11 holes. The sophomore from Sweden was the only Lope under par in the final round and excelled on par-3 holes, shooting 3 under to tie for second best among the field.
