Mueller wins 67th PGA Southwest Championship

Lopes assistant coach qualifies for 2025 WM Phoenix Open
Grand Canyon men's golf assistant coach Jesse Mueller claimed the 67th PGA Southwest Championship title for the third time in his career with a 5 under scorecard at Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nevada.

Mueller, who won the event in 2017 and 2020, automatically qualifies for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale on Feb. 6-9. Mueller played in last season's Phoenix Open and tied for 66th at 1 under, pumping up the crowd with the shot of the tournament when he hit a tee shot within a foot of the famous par-3, 16th hole's cup in front of a sold-out crowd.

Mueller, who serves as assistant coach for GCU men's golf team and is general manager of the GCU Golf Course, shot 3 under in the final round of the PGA Southwest Championship on Wednesday to win by one stroke with an 18th-hole birdie. He was one of six golfers to finish under par of the 36 players who made the cut.

Mueller had the most par breakers of the tournament, totaling 15 birdies and an eagle as he shot 72-70-69 over three rounds. Mueller shot 3 under on the back nine in the final round, ncluding birdies on the par-4 16th hole and the par-5 18th hole.

The 2025 Phoenix Open will be the eighth PGA Tour event Mueller has competed in since the beginning of 2023 and his 16th overall. He earned qualification for the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, where he shot even par in a tournament that featured Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau finishing first and second, respectively.
