The Grand Canyon University Dance Team traveled to Santa Barbara, California, on Aug. 7-11 to participate in the Universal Dance Association Camp, where they spent several days learning new routines and honing their skills alongside other collegiate teams.
The GCU dancers seized the opportunity to grow as a team, mastering the latest choreography and techniques taught by top UDA instructors. The camp was educational and rewarding, as the team earned multiple awards that recognized their dedication and talent.
Throughout the camp, the team worked tirelessly to learn material that was combined into a Game Day routine, which was performed for and evaluated by UDA staff to earn first place among 11 other collegiate teams.
Additionally, each GCU dancer was evaluated on an individual routine that was learned during the camp, with varying styles and levels of difficulty. Impressively, every GCU dancer received a blue ribbon, symbolizing excellence in memory, performance and execution.
During the camp, each team in attendance cast its vote for the team it believed best exemplified leadership and was most admired. GCU was honored to receive this prestigious award.
GCU senior captain Jordan Goldberg also made a significant contribution by choreographing the team's entry for Home Routine, which it used to compete against routines from other Division I universities. GCU secured a second-place finish in this category.
"Our camp experience this year was one of a kind, said Goldberg. "We were able to leave feeling more motivated and connected than ever before and it set off our season on the best foot."
The team's accomplishments at the camp highlight its commitment to excellence as it prepares for the upcoming season.Â
