GCU Dance Team annual golf tournament connects community

The Grand Canyon University Dance Team hosted its annual golf tournament fundraiser on Friday at GCU Championship Golf Course. Despite a little bit of rain in the morning, the weather was beautiful and made for a perfect day of golf. The event brought together alumni, community members, family and friends for a memorable and fun day.
This year’s tournament featured support from generous sponsors, including Global Credit Union, Rafi Law Group, BSN Sports, Certified Wood Products, Cordeck, Impact Diversity Express, RWC Building Products, Athleta, Sanderson Ford, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Sands Chevrolet and TelCyte, along with 144 golfers and several spectators who enjoyed the competition and the chance to interact with GCU dancers.
The tournament teed off in the early morning and was followed by on-course contests, including longest-drive, hole-in-one and closest-to-the-pin challenges. Guests also purchased raffle tickets for prizes, such as a foursome to The Phoenician, a Ping golf club, a free year of SuperStar Car Washes, signed NFL and MLB gear, and gift cards to Valley businesses.
Adding to the fun, Havocs leaders returned to host the popular “Havoc Hole Heckler,” giving golfers the chance to purchase tickets that allowed their teammates to be humorously heckled during their swings.
The day concluded with a delicious pulled pork lunch at the course's clubhouse, followed by an awards ceremony. Trophies were handed out to the top finishers, and the coveted “Most Honest” trophy was awarded to the team that came in last place, keeping the spirit of the event lighthearted and fun.
Proceeds from the tournament directly support the GCU Dance Team’s participation in national competitions, gameday performances and community outreach initiatives. Funds help cover expenses, such as travel, costumes, choreography and training, ensuring the team can continue to represent GCU at the highest level.
With another successful tournament in the books, the GCU Dance Team is looking ahead to a year filled with exciting performances and competitions. The support from this event makes it possible for the Lopes to continue showcasing their talents and representing GCU with pride.
