The Grand Canyon men's golf team heads west to California to compete in the the three-day El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club.
Competition begins Friday at 8 a.m. The first Lope will tee off at hole No. 1 at 8:30 a.m., followed by the last at 9:22 a.m.
The tournament is the regular-season finale for the Lopes, who then head to Payson, Arizona, for the three-day WAC Championship on April 26-28. This is the fourth time in the past six seasons that GCU has ended the season at the El Macero Classic, which includes 18 teams this year.
GCU ranks third highest among the field via the Scoreboard Clippd rankings at No. 70. Only Fresno State (No. 48) and San Diego (No. 53) have higher rankings. GCU is joined by California Baptist and Seattle U as WAC schools competing over three days.
The Lopes will field seniors
Nicky Kling,
Tommaso Zorzetto and
Matthew Pennington, the latter of which earned WAC Golfer of the Week two weeks ago. Freshman
Gavin O'Neill and junior
Josh McCabe round out the squad, as both Irishmen attended Malhide Community School and will compete for the first time side by side in their collegiate career.
The entire 18-team field in El Macero, California, also includes Air Force, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Denver, Gonzaga, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, UC Davis, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.
