Grand Canyon returns to Phoenix for a two-game midweek set against Oregon on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Both games will be available on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- 10-GAMERS: GCU seniors Dustin Crenshaw and Cade Verdusco have picked up a base hit in every game since opening night, holding team-best 10-game hit streaks entering the series with the Ducks. Both Crenshaw and Verdusco homered in the series at UTSA.
- PACK THE PARK: Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark has been a popular place to catch a game in 2024. GCU has hosted crowds in excess of 2,000 fans in each of its six home games to date. The Lopes are averaging 2,991 fans per game, a mark that ranks No. 21 nationally. GCU started the season with program-record attendance of 5,281 for a win over Georgetown.
- WELCOME BACK HAWK: Oregon pitching coach Blake Hawksworth returns to GCU Ballpark. Hawksworth spent the shortened 2020 season as GCU's pitching coach, leading the Lopes' staff to a 3.44 ERA in 18 games with wins against the likes of Oklahoma State, Oregon, Stanford and New Mexico. He returned to his home state of California in 2021 to coach high school baseball before serving as the director of operations for UC Irvine in 2023.
SCOUTING
Oregon opened the season with a 6-1 record, defeating Oklahoma and Baylor in the Shriners Children's College Showdown in Texas and sweeping a four-game series against Lafayette. The Ducks are coming off their first losing weekend, however, dropping two of three games to UC Santa Barbara and former Ducks assistant coach Andrew Checketts.
The Ducks are coming off of one of their best seasons since reinstating baseball in 2009. Oregon was 41-22 and a super regional host for the first time since 2012, leading in the ninth inning of a closeout game against Oral Roberts before dropping Games 2 and 3 of the super regional.
Oregon was picked fourth in the Pac-12 preseason poll behind Oregon State, Stanford and UCLA. The Ducks are in their final season in the conference before moving to the Big Ten next season.
