TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No.18 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team closed the weekend 3-1 after falling to Florida State in the first match Sunday morning and beating Jacksonville in the afternoon.
After upsetting No. 8 LSU on Saturday, GCU trailed No.5 FSU 2-0 before finding an impressive run with three flights heading to a deciding third set.
GCU's No. 1 pair of senior
Krista Rowan and junior
Sophia Hladyniuk won the second and third sets 21-15, 15-11 despite only scoring seven points in the first set.
The Lopes' No. 5 pair of graduate
Mackenzie Harris and junior
Jessica Drake continued winning ways with a 16-21, 21-16, 15-13 victory.
The comeback effort against the Seminoles (19-2) fell short in a two-point, third-set loss for the third pair.
The Lopes redeemed the close loss with a 4-1 afternoon win against Jacksonville.
The 18th-ranked Lopes will return home before two straight weekends at GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
