Pelc plays role of hero twice in walk-off win

Lopes outfielder tied game in 9th, won game in 10th
Grand Canyon senior Eddy Pelc willed the Lopes to victory with a game-tying home run in the ninth and a walk-off double in the 10th. The Lopes evened a three-game series with Tarleton State by winning 5-4 in their first extra-inning game of the season on Saturday night.
The Lopes (10-8, 4-1 WAC) entered the home half of the ninth trailing 4-3 before Pelc hammered the first pitch of the inning over the right-field fence.
Pelc was back at the plate with two outs in the 10th where he doubled to left-center field to score senior left fielder Tyler Wilson from first base.
Tarleton State (11-9, 2-3 WAC) took a first-inning lead with two runs. The Lopes grabbed it back with a three-run fourth. The Texans reclaimed a lead with a two-run sixth before GCU's late-game heroics.
GCU pitching limited Tarleton State to only four hits. Senior righty Carter Young struck out nine but allowed four runs before turning the keys over to the bullpen duo of seniors Shawn Triplett and Nathan Ward. Triplett tossed three hitless and scoreless innings before Ward threw a hitless and scoreless 10th inning and earned the win.
The Lopes and Texans meet for a Sunday rubber match at 11 a.m. at GCU Ballpark.
