CEDAR CITY, Utah — After a week between games, Grand Canyon showed no rust in its play, winning for the fourth consecutive contest and clinching a spot in the WAC Tournament.
GCU defeated Southern Utah 77-61 for its 20th win of the season. The Lopes' record improved to 20-4 overall and 12-1 in conference play. While the Lopes have thrived in Phoenix, Saturday's win moved their road record moved to 9-1 and 6-0 in WAC play.
GCU's offense saw a plethora of scorers, including four double-digit scorers and nine players in the scoring column. Senior forward
Olivia Lane notched a 14-point, 10-rebound effort with five boards on the offensive glass. Eighty of Lane's 152 rebounds have come off the offensive glass, attributing to three double-doubles on the season.

Naudia Evans led all players with 16 points, connecting from 3-point range twice for her 14th multi-3 game. Senior

Trinity San Antonio each had 12 points and four assists, with Brown adding four rebounds and San Antonio getting two steals.
GCU's 13th-ranked scoring defense held Southern Utah (6-16, 4-9 WAC) to five first-quarter points, limiting the Thunderbirds to 2-of-13 shooting from the field. GCU led 14-5 at the end of one while both teams countered their scoring output in the second. The Lopes led 32-23 at the break, shooting 43% from the floor.
The Lopes held a consistent lead in the third quarter, countering any run the Thunderbirds tried to make. Southern Utah got within five points (49-44) toward the end of the quarter, but fifth-year point guard
Jada Holland hit a floating layup with one second to spare to put GCU up seven.
The Lopes' offense thrived in the fourth, making two 3s and going 8 of 8 from the free throw line to secure the victory in the closing minutes. GCU shot 50% from the field, the fifth game this season with 50% shooting or higher. Its 88% from the charity stripe was fourth best on the season, making 15 of 17 attempts and 10 of 10 in the second half.
The defense forced 16 turnovers with eight steals, while the Lopes tied a season low by committing eight turnovers.
GCU remains on the road to visit Utah Tech in St. George, Utah, on Thursday with a tip-off time of 7 p.m. (Phoenix time).
