Senior named conference's Player and Newcomer of the Week

Grand Canyon senior guard Alyssa Durazo-Frescas was named WAC Player and Newcomer of the Week for her performance against Arizona State on Thursday.

The 5-foot-7 shooting guard was lights out from 3-point range in GCU's 70-59 victory over the Sun Devils at Footprint Center, aiding the Lopes to their first win against a Big 12 opponent in program history. Durazo-Frescas totaled 22 points, six 3-pointers, three rebounds and two steals while finishing 7 of 11 from the floor.

The six 3s were two shy of tying the GCU program record for 3-pointers made in a game. The UNLV transfer also finished two points shy of her career scoring high of 24.

GCU's win over ASU was the Lopes' second consecutive victory against the Sun Devils in a string of three meetings dating back to the 2022-23 season. Durazo-Frescas claimed both WAC weekly awards, the first female to do so this season and the second overall with GCU senior JaKobe Coles, who did so last week.
