Fundraiser supports participation in national competitions, community outreach
The Grand Canyon University Dance Team wrapped up its annual golf tournament fundraiser on Sept. 27 at the GCU Golf Course. Although it was a record-high temperature day in Arizona, this event brought together members of the community, alumni, family and friends to enjoy a day of golf.
With generous sponsorships from Global Credit Union, KONE, Arrow Stage Lines and Dolce Events, the tournament included 144 golfers and provided attendees with a chance to interact with the GCU Dance Team and participate in fun competitions throughout the course.Â
The tournament began with an early-morning tee-off, setting the stage for an exciting day. In addition to the main event, participants competed in contests such as longest drive, hole-in-one and closest-to-the-pin challenges. Participants also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for prizes, including GCU men's basketball tickets, car detailing services and gift cards/certificates to businesses all over the Valley.Â
The Havocs leaders joined the excitement, creating a one-of-a-kind golfing experience. Golfers had the opportunity to purchase "Havoc Hole Heckler" tickets, allowing them to have a fellow golfer playfully heckled during a tee shot. This added an entertaining twist to the game, resulting in plenty of golf balls taking a plunge into the pond.
The fun-filled day concluded with a barbecue lunch in the clubhouse, followed by an awards ceremony. The generous sponsors, Global Credit Union and KONE, proudly took home the second- and third-place trophies, respectively. The largest trophy, "Most Honest,"Â was awarded to the team that came in last place, adding a lighthearted touch to the festivities.
Proceeds from the tournament go directly toward funding the GCU Dance Team's participation in national competitions, performances at athletic events and community outreach initiatives. The funds raised will help cover team expenses, such as travel, costumes, choreography and training.
"My favorite part of the golf tournament was connecting all the. dots and organizations," GCU Dance Team head coach Jacque "GK" Genung-Koch said. "It was a lot of behind the scenes and prep work but absolutely worth it, and we're so grateful to the participants, sponsors and university partners that made it possible"
With the golf tournament completed, the GCU Dance Team is gearing up for an exciting year of performances and competitions. The dancers will continue to represent GCU with pride on the national stage and at local events, thanks in part to the support received at this year's tournament.
