Team signs 1st recruit for Lopes' 2025-26 season
The GCU Dance Team welcomed nine talented dancers from across the country for an exciting recruitment weekend, giving them an in-depth look at life as a future Lope.
The weekend kicked off with practice in the campus' Global Credit Union Arena, where recruits watched the team prepare for Midnight Madness. GCU Dancers then learned a jazz routine from fellow GCU Dancers that would be taught at the dance clinic the following day.Â
The recruits enjoyed lunch on campus with members of the team, followed by an academic tour given by the Antelope Reception Center staff. Later that night, the nine recruits and their parents were able to attend the highly anticipated Midnight Madness.Â
On Saturday morning, two current team members took the recruits on a dance-specific campus tour, showing them a typical dorm room, the athletic training room, workout rooms and practice facilities. After the tour, the recruits attended the GCU Dance Team clinic where they learned across-the-floor material, turns, skills, as well as hip hop and jazz routines.
At the beginning of the clinic, recruits had the opportunity to perform a solo, showcasing each dancer's talent and individuality. The night ended with a question-and-answer session connecting the GCU Dance Team coaches and dancers with the recruits and their parents.Â
On Sunday, the recruits had the option to attend the GCU women's soccer game to witness a game-day experience. They watched the team run international flags during "Flag Frenzy," dance in the stands, interact with fans and cheer on the Lopes to victory on Senior Day.Â
One of the standout moments of the weekend was the announcement of Beau Finlay as the first official recruit for the 2025-2026 season. Originally from Australia but currently residing in Houston, Finlay will join GCU as a freshman next fall. Her signing marks a significant milestone as the team's first signee of the recruiting season.Â
"We are so excited to have Beau join our dance team family," GCU Dance Team head coach Jacque "GK" Genung-Koch said. "Beau is both talented and a great human, qualities we value highly on our team. She has been attending clinics and recruitment events for the past two years, and it is a joy to get to know her and have her complete the process to become a Lope!"
Throughout the weekend, the recruits were fully immersed in GCU's rich traditions and school spirit. The dance clinic allowed them to showcase their skills alongside current team members, while the Midnight Madness event provided a glimpse of GCU's high-energy sports culture. Recruits also received exclusive GCU apparel to commemorate their experience.
As the team continues to build for the upcoming season, the recruitment weekend served as a successful introduction to what GCU has to offer its student-athletes.
