The Grand Canyon women's tennis team shut out UC Davis 7-0 on Sunday at the GCU Tennis Facility.

The Lopes (2-0) began the season-opening, nine-match homestand with their first sweep of the season. The entire GCU lineup contributed with six straight-set wins in singles, along with winning two matches in doubles.

The match started off with the Lopes winning the doubles point. GCU pair
Natasha Puehse and
Santa Strombacha picked up their first win of the season at the top court, winning 6-0. The No. 1 GCU pair won 16 matches last year to be honored on All-WAC first team.

The doubles point was clinched with a second GCU win at Court 4. Junior
Valentina Del Marco and freshman
Valeriia Krokhotina won 6-4 to put GCU up 1-0 on the Aggies (0-1).
In singles, the Lopes pushed their advantage by winning in straight sets on all six courts. Puehse, a graduate, blanked the Aggies' Arianna Stavropoulos 6-0, 6-0, while her doubles partner Strombacha, a senior, won 6-3, 6-3 at Court 2.

Iva Sepa each moved up a court and picked up two wins at Courts 3 and 4. Meanwhile, at Court 5, GCU newcomer
Elizaveta Morozova picked up her first win of the season at Court 5, winning 6-1, 6-3. The freshman from Kazan, Russia, joined the Lopes at the start of the spring semester.

Dania Deaifi wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at Court 6.

The Lopes will continue the homestand with matches against UC San Diego on Monday at noon and against Arizona on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Â Â
