STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Behind a career scoring high from
Sydney Erikstrup, double-digit points from her twin, Laura, and another defensive lockdown performance, Grand Canyon won its sixth consecutive game and remained perfect in the WAC at 6-0 with a 79-47 victory at Tarleton State on Saturday.
Sydney Erikstrup, a graduate guard, scored a career-best 21 points with 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. In GCU's back-to-back victories in Texas this week, Sydney scored 37 points, made six 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds. Laure was one of three Lopes in double figures, tallying 11 points with four rebounds on 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line.
The duo combined for 40% of the team's scoring Saturday to help secure a 14-3 record, the best start of the program's 11-year Division I era.

Jada Holland continued to showcase her passing and ability to give her teammates the ball. Holland had six assists to go along with 15 points and five rebounds. She has recorded four consecutive games of five assists or more.

Olivia Lane hit the milestone in the fourth quarter. Lane made one of two free throws to get to 999 points and then had a second chance at the line, draining the first of two free throws to get the 1,000th point and join graduate

GCU, which improved to 14-3 overall with the win, controlled a 28-7 first quarter against Tarleton State (4-10, 1-4 WAC) by shooting 66% from the field and holding the Texans to 8% (1 of 12) from the floor.
The Lopes held the Texans to without a two-point field goal for the entire first half, as Tarleton State went 4 of 22 from the field and 0 for 10 on 2s. GCU led 46-20 at the end of the first half.
The Texans held GCU to 11 points in the third quarter, the lowest number of points scored for a Lopes quarter since Liberty on Dec. 20. The Lopes' offense nearly doubled that in the fourth quarter as it led by as many as 37 points. GCU held Tarleton State to 47 points in the game, making it the 11th time this season that an opponent scored 60 points or fewer.
GCU shot 42% from 3-point range, the sixth straight game above the 30% threshold. It also made 20 of 28 free throws, breaking season highs in both categories.
GCU stays on the road and closes out its three-game road trip at Utah Valley on Thursday. Tipoff begins at 6 p.m. (Phoenix time) at UCCU Arena.
