The Grand Canyon cross country team unveiled its 2023 schedule with Arizona and California meets building up to the WAC Championships in Abilene, Texas.
In the program's second year under head coach
Paul Limpf, the Lopes will look to build off having 10 runners qualify for the NCAA regional meet last year.
GCU's first meet of the season will take place in-state on Sept. 2 at Northern Arizona, where it will compete in the George Kyte Classic for the third straight season.
Two weeks later, the team will travel to Riverside, California, to compete in the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 16. Last year, the Lopes women placed ninth out of 31.
For a sixth consecutive season (not including 2020 because of COVID-19), the Lopes will head south to Tucson to race at the Dave Murray Invitational on Sept. 29.
In the Dave Murray Invitational women's race last season, Lopes runners
Abby Scherer,
Halle Jenkins, and
Kaitlyn Kaye each finished among the top five and will return this season.
To round out the regular season, GCU will head to Sunnyvale, California, for the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 14. Last season, 26 teams competed in the men's race while 28 entered the women's competition.
The student-athletes with appropriate qualifying times will then look ahead to the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 10Â at Sacramento State.
One week after regionals, the best cross country student-athletes in the country will compete against each other on Nov. 18 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
