Mitchell, Parrott garner Preseason All-WAC honors

Lopes predicted to finish 2nd in conference coaches' poll
Grand Canyon women's volleyball was predicted to finish second in the WAC this season by a conference coaches poll, which also selected graduate setter Klaire Mitchell and sophomore outside hitter Tatum Parrott for the Preseason All-WAC team.
The Lopes were picked second in the conference with one first-place vote and 87 points, sitting behind Stephen F. Austin with 99 points (nine first-place votes). UT Rio Grande Valley ranked third with 80 points and received the final first-place vote.
GCU returns from an 18-11 season with a 10-4 conference record and an NIVC postseason debut victory against Wichita State, the program's highest-rated opponent to defeat in NCAA Ratings Percentage Index.
Mitchell, a three-time All-WAC first-team student-athlete and two-time WAC Setter of the Year, holds the Lopes' Division I-era assist record with 3,392 in four seasons.
The Couer D'Alene, Idaho, native's 1,126 assists last season also ranks first in the program's Division I-era single-season assist record book, topping Mitchell's previous feat of 1,085 from the 2019 season. She now owns three of the top five slots in that category.
Parrott, the only WAC sophomore to earn preseason honors, capped her regular-season freshman campaign with 299 points, 254 kills, 151 digs, 30 service aces and seven solo blocks, earning a spot on the All-WAC first team as well as the All-WAC Freshman Team.
Parrott also earned three consecutive WAC Freshman of the Week awards last season and averaged 13.6 kills in her last eight matches, playing a major role in the Lopes' first streak of six consecutive sweep victories since 1999.
GCU travels to UTEP for an exhibition match on Saturday before regular-season play begins on Aug. 25 at the Wake Forest Tournament.
