Grand Canyon softball added catcher Alexis Soto to its roster, entering the 2024 season as a junior after transferring from Liberty.
A native of Huntington Beach, California, Soto bolsters GCU's catching corps by moving closer to her hometown while remaining at a faith-based institution.
"Alexis is a great addition to our program," third-year GCU head coach
Shanon Hays said. "She comes from a super program in Liberty and really enjoyed it there, but she is a SoCal kid who wanted to be close to home and continue to be at a faith-based university. She will be a great fit at GCU. We lost two catchers this past year to graduation, and we feel like we've done a super job of bolstering that position with what we have recruited."
Soto played two seasons for the Flames who — like the Lopes — advanced to the 2023 Los Angeles Regional hosted by UCLA.

Soto made 29 starts for Liberty as a sophomore last season, collecting 16 hits and 14 RBIs. As a freshman, she hit .256 in 41 games with 21 RBIs and won an ASUN Freshman of the Week honor.
Attending Calvary Chapel High School, Soto was named her league's MVP in 2019 and was a two-time first-team All-CIF and all-league honoree. She also played volleyball in high school.
Soto transitions from one winning program to another in making the move from Liberty to GCU. The Flames went 84-40 (.677) and made two NCAA tournament appearances in Soto's two seasons with the program. Similarly, the Lopes have gone 86-29 (.748) and also made two NCAA tournament appearances in the last two seasons.
Soto also has softball bloodlines. Her mother, Vanessa Miller, played softball at Fresno State and played on the Bulldogs' 1998 national championship team.
