Grand Canyon senior
Keira Christie-Galloway will make program history Thursday night as the first Lopes hurdler to race at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Christie-Galloway, a senior from Ottawa, Canada, will run in the 100-meter hurdles at Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Her semifinal is scheduled for 6:32 p.m. (Phoenix time).
Christie-Galloway has continued to improve times throughout the season on her path to the national championship meet. The journey to running for the Lopes was not a clear path.
She made her mark with the Canadian national team, holding the Canadian under-20 and under-18 records in the 100-meter hurdles before joining GCU. The under-20 hurdle record previous to Christie-Galloway's was a 36-year-old mark.
Christie-Galloway initially went to Iowa State, where she set a personal-best time of 13.10 seconds in the 100 hurdles in May 2019 to win the Big-12 Conference Championship as a freshman.
Christie-Galloway transferred to Arizona State, where she competed during the 2021-2022 indoor and outdoor seasons.
After graduating from Arizona State, Christie-Gallloway joined the Lopes as a graduate student.
During her time at GCU, Christie-Galloway broke the program's indoor 60-meter hurdles record at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, running a time of 8.17 seconds. She followed that by becoming the WAC indoor hurdles champion.
Christie-Galloway went on to repeatedly break the outdoor 100 hurdles GCU record. The most recent record-setting performance took place in May at the WAC Outdoor Championships, running 13.01 seconds and claiming first in the conference meet at Stephen F. Austin.
After advancing through the NCAA West First Round, Christie-Galloway will become the first Lopes' hurdler to compete at the NCAA Championships. As the nation's 19th-ranked hurdler, she will compete in the second heat of three. From those three heats, nine hurdlers will advance with the top two finishers in each heat moving on, as well as the next best three times. The 100 hurdles final is scheduled for 6:42 p.m. (Phoenix time) on Saturday.
