After eight seasons leading the Grand Canyon beach volleyball program, Kristen Rohr is stepping down to accept the head coaching position at Arizona State.
A national search to find GCU's next beach volleyball head coach is underway. Lopes associate head coach
Abra Rummel will serve as the program's point of contact.
"Thank you to President Brian Mueller, Jamie Boggs and the entire athletic department for the opportunity to lead the GCU beach volleyball program," Rohr said. "I wish the student-athletes, coaching staff and administration the best of luck moving forward. They have a bright future ahead. GCU will always have a special place in my heart."
The Lopes have qualified for back-to-back NCAA tournaments as an at-large selection and compiled a 52-15 (.776) record the last two seasons. GCU completed its first season in a conference in 2023 and made a splash as runner-up in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Tournament. GCU has been dominant in the state, winning its last six meetings against Arizona State and last three meetings against Arizona.
"Coach Rohr is not just an outstanding coach, she is a wonderful person and it comes as no surprise that she would be highly sought after," GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said. "We are thankful for the eight years she spent leading our beach volleyball program. In this short time, she helped build GCU into one of the sport's elite programs nationally. Our beach volleyball program is primed for more national success with the tremendous support we receive at GCU, and we expect a very competitive pool of candidates to continue moving the program forward."
