Grand Canyon welcomes SECÂ pitcher Megan Schumacher to next season's roster.
"I am so excited for Megan to join the GCU pitching staff," said Lopes assistant coach Maribeth Gorsuch, who coaches GCU pitchers. "She is a strong, talented, explosive athlete who has pitched at the highest level against the top competition in the country. Her talent and experience will be a great addition to our staff, and I'm excited to work with her."
Schumacher, a 5-foot-7, right-handed pitcher, caps her Mizzou career with 83 appearances, 22 starts, a 3.23 ERA, a 23-8 record, 133 strikeouts, four shutouts and one no-hitter in 223 1/3 innings.Â
The East Fishkill, New York, native was also a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll and two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Scholar Athlete. After earning a Elementary Education degree this year, Schumacher looks to pursue a master's degree in Elementary Education at GCU.Â
The multi-talented athlete grew up playing field hockey, volleyball, basketball and softball, in which she was a six-year varsity starter, two-time honoree on all-state first team and four-time all-league and all-section selection. She also was a 2019 Gatorade New York Player of the Year nominee and was named the Poughkeepsie Journal's Pitcher of the Year. Â
"I love the culture and values GCU represents," Schumacher said. "I am excited for an opportunity to play for and learn from this coaching staff. They have created something really special here."
