Maribeth Gorsuch completed her third year as GCU's pitching coach in the 2024 season, overseeing a staff season ERA of 2.67 and a 50-13 record in the circle. Senior pitcher Hailey Hudson rose through the ranks, earning NFCA all-region honors, WAC Pitcher of the Year, and first team all-WAC honors, while junior pitcher Meghan Golden earned all-WAC second team recognition.Â
Gorsuch also assisted in coaching the winningest season in GCU softball history (50 wins), with the Lopes earning their third consecutive WAC Championship title, and third-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Regional, where they competed in the regional finals for the first time in program history.Â
In 2023, the Lopes earned their second consecutive WAC Championship Tournament title, and returned the NCAA Los Angeles Regional where they defeated No. 2 UCLA for their first post-season victory in program history.
Gorsuch's 2023 pitching staff notched a 2.44 ERA, and 13 shutouts including three no-hitters (Hailey Hudson, Meghan Golden x2) and the first perfect game in program history (Emily Darwin). Golden and Ariel Thompson earned all-conference honors as well.
In her first season with the Lopes, Gorsuch's pitching staff posted a 2.99 earned-run average to rank second in the WAC and also compiled eight shutout victories. Ariel Thompson headlined GCU's accomplishments in the circle with an impressive 21-6 mark and a 2.70 ERA.
In an illustrious playing career at LSU, the Lewisville, Texas, native posted a 2.77 ERA and a 31-12 record in five seasons, including 25 complete games, 11 shutouts and the first perfect game in Tigers history.
Gorsuch gained coaching experience in 2020 when she became the pitching coach for the Texas Glory 16U softball team. She helped the squad to second- and third-place finishes in the Texas Fastpitch League Championship and a third-place finish at the Top Cup Nationals.
