The eight-team tournament got underway on Tuesday with the four lowest seeds playing games. No. 5 Abilene Christian and No. 7 UTRGVÂ won opening-round games, and the Lopes were paired with the Vaqueros as the lower-seeded advancing team. GCU needs to win four consecutive games to claim the tournament championship.
All of the tournament's games will be available on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- WAC SUCCESS: Grand Canyon mounted a furious comeback to claim its third consecutive WAC Regular-Season Championship on the regular season's final day Saturday. The Lopes won their last 13 conference games to go from 9-7 to 22-7 and overcome season-long league-leader Sam Houston. The Lopes have won five of the last six regular-season titles. GCU's 133-37 (.782) WAC record the last six years is the nation's best conference record in that span.
Â
- AWARD SEASON:Â GCU led the WAC, collecting 12 All-WAC awards which was double the nearest school. Lopes head coach Gregg Wallis was the first rookie head coach to win in the 38-year history of the award. Junior shortstop Jacob Wilson was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year and landed on the All-WAC first team alongside sophomore pitcher Daniel Avitia and junior outfielder Homer Bush Jr. The Lopes are also collecting national recognition with Wilson landing on the 25-man Golden Spikes Award semifinalist list and junior left-hander Zach Thornton earning a spot on the 60-man Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist list.
Â
- JUST A FEW RECORDS: It was an eventful weekend in the program's record books: GCU is looking to extend what is already a Division I program record of 13 consecutive wins ... GCU broke its season cumulative attendance record with 37,849 fans this season ... junior Elijah Buries reached the 200 mark for his career ... junior Jacob Wilson broke the program's D-I career hits record of 217 ... junior Homer Bush Jr. broke the program's single-season D-I stolen base record of 22 ... freshman Zach Yorke needs two more RBIs to break the program's all-time freshman RBIs record of 61 ... Yorke needs two hits to break the program's all-time freshman hits record of 74 ... graduate Zack Gregory needs three more walks to break the program's single-season D-I record of 49.
