The USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award continues to keep its eyes on the Grand Canyon baseball roster, maintaining junior shortstop
Jacob Wilson and adding junior center fielder
Homer Bush Jr. on its Midseason Watch List that was revealed on Wednesday.
The release of the 45-man Midseason Watch List continues the process of identifying the nation's top amateur baseball player. A list of semifinalists is named at the end of the regular season before the winner is revealed on June 25.
Wilson became GCU's first semifinalist in program history last season and began this season on the Preseason Watch List. Bush makes a watchlist for the first time and becomes GCU's second player to earn the honor.
GCU joins Florida, LSU, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest as schools with multiple honorees on the list. The Lopes are the WAC's only school with any representation on the list.
Both Wilson and Bush are batting well above .400 at the midpoint of the season.
Wilson leads the team and ranks third nationally with a scorching .465 batting average. He has also resumed his position as one of the nation's toughest batters to strike out, currently sitting at sixth in the nation after leading the country a year ago.
Bush — the reigning WAC Hitter of the Week — is 23rd in the nation with a .429 batting average. He has also scored 39 runs this season to rank in the top 10 in the country.
The next round in the Golden Spikes Award recognition process comes on May 22 when the semifinalists are released and the fan-voting stage begins.
