The Grand Canyon beach volleyball program took its next step as an elite program by becoming a repeat NCAA tournament qualifier when this year's field was unveiled Sunday.
GCU (26-7) received the national No. 7 seed and will face No. 10 seed Stanford (28-12) in Friday's first round of the tournament that the Lopes reached for the first time last season. The Lopes and Cardinal will compete at 11 a.m. (Phoenix time) with the dual match being broadcast on ESPNU from the beach of Gulf Shores, Alabama.

If the Lopes advance, eighth-year head coach
Kristen Rohr's team will play a Saturday quarterfinal on ESPN2 against the Friday first-round winner between No. 2 TCU (35-2) and No. 15 Stetson (22-14). Semifinals also will take place Saturday with the championship being held Sunday at 9 a.m. (Phoenix time) on ESPN.
GCU and Stanford just met on April 21 with the Cardinal winning 4-1 on its home courts at the Stanford Invitational.
After this weekend's run to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championship title match, the Lopes have matched the program's single-season record for victories set last season. That team finished the season 26-7 after losing a 3-2 NCAA tournament first-round match to Georgia State in Gulf Shores.
GCU went 3-1 at the CCSA Championship, defeating No. 16 South Carolina, No. 2 TCU and No. 6 LSU before the Horned Frogs won a rematch with the Lopes in the championship on Saturday. GCU's win over TCU set a program record for highest-ranked opponent that it has beaten and made the Lopes 5-6 against top-10 opponents this season.
Stanford is 6-9 against top-10 opponents this season after finishing in third place at the Pac-10 Championship, where they upset No. 1 UCLA in the second round last week.
