Grand Canyon finishes off a stretch of five consecutive road games with a trip to Las Vegas and a meeting with UNLV on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

HOMIE: Lopes junior center fielder Homer Bush Jr. was named the WAC Hitter of the Week for the first time in his career after hitting .600 in four games. He's third in the WAC and ranks 11th nationally with a .449 batting average. His week included back-to-back three-hit performances and reaching base safely in 15 of his 21 plate appearances.
BURIES BACK: GCU junior utilityman Elijah Buries has had three straight multi-hit games and hit his first homer of the season on Saturday. A career .351 hitter, Buries is beginning to rapidly raise his batting average — which moved from .200 to .260 over the last week — after starting the year with injury. Buries is hitting .538 in his last three games.
KEEP ON SCORING: The Lopes lead the WAC in scoring at 7.7 runs per game. GCU has scored five or more runs in 15 of the last 17 games.

SCOUTING

Like the Lopes, UNLV is coming off of a win in a three-game road series in conference play. The Rebels won a Sunday rubber match to take a three-game set at Air Force. UNLV has split its four Mountain West weekend series, falling to San Diego State and Fresno State while topping Nevada and Air Force.

UNLV played a challenging nonconference schedule and got the 2023 season off to a strong start with a sweep of Pacific. The Rebels, however, dropped nine of their next 10 nonconference games leading into Tuesday's matchup with the Lopes.

UNLV has proved opportunistic in a few key areas, ranking sixth in the country in double plays per game, 12th in triples and 15th in sacrifice flies. The Rebels have an above-average offense that ranks 43rd nationally with 8.1 runs per game.

The Rebels, under seventh-year head coach Stan Stolte, are looking for an NCAA Tournament return for the first time since 2014. The Lopes and Rebels are rekindling a series that dates back to 1967. The teams played every year from 2015 through 2019 before taking three seasons off before meeting on Tuesday.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lopes face a quick turnaround when a three-game WAC set begins on Thursday night against Seattle U at GCU Ballpark.
