2 Lopes claim conference scholarly awards in 1st year with new affiliation
Grand Canyon graduate Abbie Hughes and senior Mackenzie Harris earn Coastal Collegiate Sports Association All-Academic honors after a vote by CCSA conference coaches.
Student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.50 GPA, have participated in 50 percent of contests during the season and have one year of residence at the institution to be considered for this award.
Mackenzie Harris | CCSA All-Academic Team
Harris, a unanimous all-academic coaches selection, earned a 4.00 in accounting.
The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native, joined the Lopes on Court 6 last season, and achieved a starting lineup position this year on Courts 4 and 5, to complete the season with an 8-9 record; Harris notched a two-set victory against No. 11 Stetson (Mar. 4) with partner Cami Sanchez on Court 5 to contribue to GCU's 3-2 team win.
Abbie Hughes | CCSA All-Academic Team
Hughes earned a bachelors degree in psychology, and is currently pursuing her graduate degree in addition counseling with a 4.00 GPA.
Working hard on and off the court, the Mason, Ohio native took no days off, playing in all Lopes matches on either Court 1 or 2 to tally a 22-7 record; Hughes took victory over No. 14 Long Beach State (2/24), No. 4 USC (2/24), No. 8 LMU (3/12), No. 18 Pepperdine (3/18), No. 15 FIU (3/24) and No. 9 Cal (3.24, 4/22).
