Hughes, Morin named CCSA Pair of the Week

GCU wins its 1st weekly award as new conference member
The Grand Canyon beach volleyball pair of senior defender Abbie Hughes and sophomore blocker Samaya Morin wasselected as the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association's Pair of the Week after going 4-0 in straight-set performances last weekend in Southern California.
The award marks No. 6 GCU's first weekly honor as a new member of the CCSA.Hughes and Morin finished first, on Court 2, in Friday's matchup against No. 14 Long Beach with a 21-19, 21-11 victory, which was key to a 3-2 GCU victory. They later defeated No. 4 USC's 2's pair, 21-19, 21-12, on Friday in a 3-2 team loss to the two-time defending national champion.
The pair also won a 21-11, 21-12 match at CSUN, where they also prevailed 21-16, 21-8 on Court 2 against Concordia Irvine on Thursday.
The Lopes will be back in the sand at the Tampa Classic to play No. 2 Florida State, No. 11 Stetson, Georgia State and Tampa on Friday and Saturday.
