GCU takes 2nd-place standing into long conference trip

The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team will travel to third-place UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday night and sixth-place California Baptist on Saturday for WAC games.

3 THINGS TO KNOW

Second-place GCU leads the WAC in aces per set (2.3), team service aces (136), and hitting percentage (.271), while also respectively ranking fourth, 11th and 21st nationally in those categories this season.
Sophomore outside hitter Tatum Parrott leads the conference in aces per set (0.5), kills per set (4.3), points (294), and points per set (5.3); Parrott ranks eighth (points per set) and 20th (kills per set), 26th (aces per set), and 37th (points) in the nation this season.
Graduate setter Klaire Mitchell surpassed 4,000 career assists in GCU's match versus Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, and remains eighth nationally among active Division I setters for career assists (4,029).

SCOUTING UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY

UTRGV holds a four-match sweep streak, defeating 10th-place Southern Utah, eighth-place Utah Tech, 11th-place Seattle U and ninth-place Utah Valley 3-0.
The Vaqueros' only conference season loss came against first-place SFA, falling 3-0 on Sept. 23. SFA hit .353 to UTRGV's .075 on the match and outblocked the Vaqueros 13-1..
UTRGV does not lead the WAC as a team in any statistical categories, but Luisa Silva Dos Santos leads the conference in hitting percentage (.354) while Luanna Emiliano has posted the most assists (670) this season.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA BAPTIST

CBU carries a three-match losing streak after falling to fourth-place Abilene Christian (3-2), first-place SFA (3-1) and fifth-place UT Arlington (3-0).
The Lancers do not lead the WAC as a team in any statistical categories, but Mia Jerue leads the conference in service aces (29) while Michalina Rola has posted the most attacks (701) this season.
CBU averages a .234 hitting percentage, 12.7 kills per set, 11.8 assists per set, 1.8 aces per set, 14.8 digs per set, and 1.7 blocks per set to GCU's .271, 12.8 kills per set, 11.7 assists per set, 2.3 aces per set, 13.7 digs per set and 2.5 blocks per set.

Sophomore outside hitter Tatum Parrott notched 31 kills (4.4 per set), a .262 hitting percentage, four aces, 26 digs (3.7 per set) and six blocks (three solo) for 39.5 points.
Sophomore libero Tatum Thomas posted 18 digs (2.6 per set), 37 receptions (.946), eight assists (1.1 per set) and five aces.
Graduate setter Klaire Mitchell reached 4,000 career assists, recorded 73 assists (10.4 per set), 27 digs (3.9 per set), five blocks, two kills and 7.5 points.
