ST GEORGE, UTAH – The Grand Canyon women's soccer team wrapped up a two-match roadtrip with a 1-1 draw at Utah Tech on Sunday afternoon.
The Lopes (8-4-2, 2-1-1 WAC) fell behind 1-0 in the first half but were able to level the scored in the 52nd minute on a goal by senior forward
Lindsey Prokop. Late in the game the Lopes had chances for a game winner but were unable to get a ball by Utah Tech's (5-4-4, 0-0-3) goalkeeper.
GCU attacked the goal early and often outshooting Utah Tech 23-10 with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Midfielder
Leah Pirro had a shot on goal in the 11th minute before defender
Sidney Roberts forced a save out of the UT goalkeeper in the ensuing corner kick.
12 minutes later the Trailblazers would take the lead on a corner kick of their own as the ball fell in between the GCU defenders and found the foot of Utah Tech's Brynlee Rider to go up 1-0.
In the second half the Lopes remained aggressive on offense drawing back-to-back corner kicks in the 49th minute before breaking through with a goal three minutes later. Off a GCU throw Pirro and senior forward
Bekah Valdez linked up with quick passes before Valdez fired a long shot on goal. The ball deflected off the Utah Tech goalkeeper and found Prokop who finished with a point-blank shot to level the score at 1-1.
It was the second goal for Prokop on the roadtrip and third in the last four games and Valdez collected her second assist in as many games.
Tied at 1-1 the Lopes pushed for a game-winning goal with just under 30 minutes left to play. Senior forward

Ani Jensen had three combined shots in two minutes but all were saved by Utah Tech backup goalie Bryanna Hofheins who subbed into the game in the 58th minute.
In the final minute the Lopes had one final offensive attack that led to a shot by Jensen that was blocked and a follow-up shot from midfielder
AJ Loera with 13 seconds left that went over the crossbar.
Gourley and Pirro led the Lopes with five shots each and three combined shots on goal while junior goalkeeper
DeAira Jackson made three saves on 10 shots faced. The Lopes sit in third place in the WAC standings after the first two weeks of conference play with seven points on two wins and a draw.
The Lopes will be back in action at GCU Stadium on Oct. 7 against California Baptist at 7 p.m.
