Second tournament of the season after 3rd place showing
The Grand Canyon men's golf team is set for the two-day, 54-hole Mark Simpson Invitational at Boulder Country Club in Boulder, Colo.

GCU is two weeks removed from a third-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational, it's first tournament of the season. Senior Nicky Kling took first place overall at 13 under par as he was one of three Lopes to finish in the top-20, joining classmate Matthew Pennington (T-3rd/8 under) and freshman Gavin O'Neill (T-19th/1 over).

The Mark Simpson Invitational has been a yearly tournament for the Lopes, who are competing in it for the third straight season and fifth time fifth time since 2018. It placed eighth put of 16 teams a year ago.

The University of Colorado will play host and be joined by 17 other teams over the course of two days. Other WAC schools joining the Lopes include UT Arlington and Utah Valley. Crosstown school Arizona State will also be competing.

GCU will field Kling, Pennington, O'Neill, senior Tommaso Zorzetto and junior Josh McCabe. Monday's tee time is set for 8:15 AM MDT/7:15 MST.
