NCAA Academic Progress Rate notes 6 perfect single-year scores for GCU programs
The success of Grand Canyon student-athletes extended beyond their competitive venues and into the classrooms despite the multiple challenges of recent years.
After a one-year hiatus from public announcement, the NCAA released Academic Progress Rate data for Division I athletic departments and teams this week. Grand Canyon received a 972 single-year department score for APR, which tracks the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship with consideration to graduation, retention and eligibility.Â
While every GCU program remains in good academic standings, two Lopes programs (women's golf and women's tennis) excelled with perfect multi-year scores of 1,000 for 2017-18 through 2020-21.
Men's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's swimming and diving and women's tennis also earned single-year scores of 1,000. Women's golf, men's soccer, softball, men's swimming and diving and women's tennis recorded program bests for multi-year rates, ranging from 990 to 1,000.
"GCU student-athletes, coaches and support staff are dedicated to creating a culture of academic excellence," GCU Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development Nicole Alderson said. "We are blessed to work with student-athletes who strive for excellence in their sport, the classroom and the community."
