After a Tuesday victory at Arizona and another weekend series win over WAC foe Sacramento State, Grand Canyon entered the D1Baseball.com top-25 rankings for the first time in program history.
The Lopes have been ranked by several other publications this season, but they now enter the most widely recognized poll in college baseball as the No. 25 team.
The Lopes check in at No. 24 with Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, No. 26 with National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and No. 20 with Perfect Game. GCU is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll and remains unranked by Baseball America.
GCU is 7-3 on the year against Power Five opponents, splitting matchups with No. 2 Oregon State and No. 7 Stanford while sweeping two games against No. 9 Texas Tech, winning two of three from Arizona and defeating Arizona State in the lone matchup.
The Lopes host the Sun Devils on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at GCU Ballpark on FOX 10 Xtra (Ch. 45/Cable 9) and ESPN+. GCU looks to sweep the two-game series from Arizona State.
Under 11th-year head coach
Andy Stankiewicz, GCU is the lone ranked team in Arizona and has the top RPI in the state at 34 (Arizona is No. 40, Arizona State is No. 94).
GCU has won all eight of its conference series and needs a combination of two wins and/or two California Baptist losses in the last six WAC games to wrap up its second consecutive regular-season title.
The Lopes are looking to lock up the WAC West Division's No. 1 seed for the WAC Tournament, which takes place at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona, from May 25-28.
