Grand Canyon is set to visit Hi Corbett Field for the second time this season for a Tuesday night matchup against Arizona. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Lopes will look to repeat the success of their most recent trip to Tucson,
a 19-3 victory over the No. 11 Wildcats on Feb. 22.
The matchup will air exclusively on Pac-12 Networks with Daron Sutton on the call.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- BALANCED BASEBALL:Â The Lopes are one of just three teams in the nation to rank among the nation's top 30 in both batting average and earned-run average. GCU ranks 29th with a .303 team batting average and 27th with a staff ERA of 4.10.Â
Â
- PAC-12 PLAY: As the regular-season schedule winds down, the Lopes have a pair of midweek games remaining — both against in-state Pac-12 foes. In addition to Tuesday's game against the Wildcats, GCU will host Arizona State next Tuesday. The Lopes feature a 4-3 mark against schools from the conference this season, splitting matchups with nationally ranked Stanford, Oregon State and Arizona while defeating Arizona State. The Lopes and Wildcats have split their last six games.
Â
- AGUILAR'S WEEK:Â Junior right fielder Tayler Aguilar had a week to remember and earned the distinction of WAC Hitter of the Week for his efforts. In four games, Aguilar homered five times and drove in 13 runs as part of GCU's 3-1 week. He drove his home run total up to 15 on the season, one of just 31 hitters in the nation to reach that mark. Aguilar is the first GCU batter to amass 15 home runs since Dan Williams tallied 16 in 1996.
Â
SCOUTING
Arizona is playing its final midweek and final nonconference game of the season. The Wildcats are wrapping up a five-game homestand which featured a 3-1 weekend series win over Nevada.
Tanner O'Tremba leads Arizona in most offensive categories and currently leads the Pac-12 batting title race with a .376 batting average.
Arizona sits in third place in the Pac-12 standings, two games back of Oregon State and one back of UCLA. The Wildcats are contending for prime position in the Pac-12's first conference tournament.
Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
GCU returns to Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark for the first time since April 16, hosting a three-game conference series against Sacramento State beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
