Grand Canyon junior right fielder
Tayler Aguilar was named WAC Hitter of the Week on Monday.
In the Lopes' 3-1 week, Aguilar homered five times and drove in 13 runs. He scored seven runs and finished 8 for 17 (.471) on the week.
"You got a homer to right, a homer to left and an RBI knock up the middle," GCU head coach
Andy Stankiewicz said after Tuesday's 7-2 win at New Mexico. "That's what good hitters do. They use the whole field."
Aguilar homered twice at New Mexico on Tuesday, once in Friday's series opener at Utah Valley and twice more in the second game of the series on Saturday. He ran his home run total on the year to 15, the most by a Lopes batter since 1996.
"He's getting in the batter's box and he's aggressive," Stankiewicz said. "He's getting ready for his pitch early and he's taking his shot. He's put some great at bats together."
Tuesday's win at New Mexico saw Aguilar tally 13 total bases, the most by a GCU player since the program's return to Division I in 2014.
Aguilar is now one off the pace of the WAC's home run leader and is one of 31 players nationally to hit 15 or more home runs.
A second team All-WAC selection last season, Aguilar joins
Jacob Wilson as GCU's two players to win the WAC weekly hitting honor alongside pitchers
Connor Markl and
Daniel Avitia, who each won the weekly pitching distinction.
