The No. 7 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team heads to Hawaii for four matches this weekend. The Lopes are set to play No. 8 Hawaii and No. 6 Loyola Marymount twice each at Ching Complex in Honolulu. All matches will have live stats available and Sunday's 8 p.m. match against Hawaii will be streamed on Spectrum Sports and ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- STAYING STRONG IN THE POLLS: The Lopes continue to hold down the No. 7 spot for the sixth week in a row in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Collegiate Beach Coaches Poll and CollegeBeachVB Committee Poll.
- NATIONALLY RANKED PAIR: The sophomore duo of Allison Hansen and Allanis Navas, who were named AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week on March 21 after a 5-0 win in Alabama, is ranked fourth in the country among No. 2 pairs with a 17-2 record.
- PAC-12 STAND: GCU is coming off six wins, including four consecutive Pac-12 victories that started with a sweep over Arizona State before a 4-1 win over Washington, a sweep of Utah and a 4-1 win against Oregon.
SCOUTING
Hawaii
- Hawaii is 17-10 this season, coming off of a 2-2 weekend in Manhattan Beach, California. The Rainbow Wahine defeated No. 15 Florida International and Utah, but fell to No. 3 USC and No. 6 LSU.
- The Lopes are looking for their first-ever win over Hawaii, which has won all eight matchups. The last meeting was in 2019, when the Lopes fell 3-2 at home.
- Hawaii's Sofia Russo and Anna Maidment rank third in the nation among No. 5 pairs with a 9-1 record. The pair is 18-7, seeing time on Courts 2, 3, 4 and 5.
- On Court No. 1, Kaylee Glagau and Brooke Van Sickle have accumulated a 19-7 record. They are 8-2 in the last 10 matches.
Loyola Marymount
- Loyola Marymount is 19-3 this season, with its only losses coming against No. 6 LSU twice and No. 2 TCU.
- The Lopes and Lions are 4-4 against each other. The last time the two faced, LMU won 5-0.
- LMU's No. 1 pair, Megan Rice and Reka Orsi Toth, has a 17-3 record, which ranks fourth nationally among the top pairs.
- On Court 2, Avery Poppinga and Marine Kinna have posted an 18-2 record together to put them at third in the country among No. 2 pairs.
LAST TIME OUT
- GCU defeated Oregon 4-1Â to close out its home slate with an 8-0 record. The Lopes moved to 16-4 on the season.Â
- GCU picked up its fourth consecutive Pac-12 win as it defeated Arizona State and Washington last Thursday, Utah last Friday and Oregon on Monday. The Lopes are 7-2 against Pac-12 opponents.
- GCU took the 1-0 lead as fifth-year senior Teagan DeFalco and freshman Samaya Morin took down Oregon's No. 3 pair in straight sets 21-10, 21-16. On Court 4, junior Abbie Hughes and sophomore Krista Rowan won 21-16, 21-10 to bring the Lopes ahead 2-0 in the dual, then fifth-year duo Madi Relaz and Cami Sanchez clinched the win against the Ducks' No. 5 pair with two strong sets, 21-10 and 21-15. GCU sophomore duo and last week's AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week, Allison Hansen and Allanis Navas, took care of business on Court 2 to stretch GCU's lead to 4-0. A competitive three-set match on Court 1 went in favor of Oregon to bring the final score to 4-1.
