The No. 7 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team heads to Palo Alto, California, for the Stanford Invitational to close out the regular-season schedule.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- MOST WINS IN GCU HISTORY: With 22 wins, GCU surpassed the program's single-season victory record, which was set in 2019 at 20 wins. Lopes No. 2 sophomore pair Allison Hansen and Allanis Navas also broke the single-season pair wins record last weekend. They are 25-2 on the season and the previous record was 23 wins, set in 2016 by Shannon Dugan and Mackenzie Phelps (Ponnett).
- UNDEFEATED WEEKEND: The Lopes are coming off an undefeated weekend at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson. GCU defeated Stephen F. Austin 5-0, CSU Bakersfield 4-1, No. 11 Long Beach State 3-2 and No. 17 Arizona 4-1.
- SIGHTS ON FIRST-EVER POSTSEASON: With the regular season coming close to an end, GCU has a high chance of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama, for the first time in program history.
SCOUTING
No. 11 California
- The Bears are 21-9, coming off of a 4-1 win at Santa Clara.
- Notable wins include No. 15 Long Beach State, No. 9 Hawaii, No. 18 Pepperdine and No. 12 Cal Poly,
Saint Mary's
- The Gaels are currently 15-12 on the season.
- Over the week, Saint Mary's picked up two wins against Santa Clara 4-1 and San Francisco 5-0.
Washington
- This will be the second meeting between the Lopes and the Huskies, with GCU winning the first round 4-1.
- Washington is 10-15, picking up key wins against Cal and Hawaii.
No. 8 Stanford
- This will be the second meeting this season between GCU and Stanford. The Lopes won the first match 3-2 in the Battle for LA Invitational.
- At 20-8, this is the second consecutive season with 20-plus wins for the first time in Stanford beach volleyball history.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Lopes went 4-0 at the Arizona Invitational in Tucson to improve to a 22-6 record on the season.
