The Grand Canyon women's golf team heads to Kerrville, Texas, in hopes of winning the WAC Championship. The three-round tournament begins Monday concludes Wednesday with 18 holes played each day.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- PICKED SECOND: The Lopes were picked to finish second in the vote of the WAC head coaches. GCU finished just three points behind favorite Sam Houston, which earned seven first-place votes to the Lopes' three. New Mexico State and Seattle U each also received a first-place vote and came in third and fourth, respectively, in the poll.

TRAVELING SIX: The Lopes will travel seniors Payton Fehringer, Alexis Linam, Siripatsorn Patchana and Madison Voisard. Sophomores Carly Strole and Constanza Guerrero rounding out the travel team with Strole competing as an individual for head coach Lauren Giesecke.

WARM CLIMATE: The Lopes have been at their best when playing in a warm climate, taking two titles at Arizona events and landing in the top five in four others.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The tournament's field includes California Baptist, Chicago State, Dixie State, Lamar, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, Seattle U, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton, UT Rio Grande Valley, and Utah Valley. The teams will play 18 holes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with rounds beginning at 8 a.m. at the Riverhill Country Club. The course is a par 72 with yardage of 6,196.
LAST TIME OUT
GCU closed out regular-season play at the Chamber's Bay Invitational on Tuesday by finishing 10th in the 18-team tournament in Seattle.
Patchana and Linam were the Lopes' top scorers. Patchana tied for 24th place after scoring 5 over par in her final round at Chamber's Bay Golf Course. Linam slipped to a 31st-place tie after recording 2-over-par and 4-over-par rounds for the first two rounds of the three-round tournament.
