The No. 7 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team heads down to Tucson for the Arizona Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Lopes will face Stephen F. Austin, CSU Bakersfield, No. 11 Long Beach State and No. 17 Arizona.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- HAWAII RECAP:Â GCU split its Hawaii trip at 2-2 with two wins over No. 8 Hawaii and two losses against No. 6 Loyola Marymount.
- FIRST EVER MATCHUP WITH SFA:Â This weekend's dual against Stephen F. Austin will be the first ever meeting between the Lopes and Ladyjacks.
- LOPES HOLD 7 SPOT:Â The Lopes came in at No. 7 in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Coaches Poll for the seventh week in a row.
SCOUTING
Stephen F. Austin- This will be the first meeting between GCU and SFA.
- SFA is 11-11, common opponents during the 2022 season include Texas A&M-Kingsville, Loyola Marymount, UAB, Tulane, LSU and Abilene Christian.Â
- The Lopes and Roadrunners are 3-3 against each other all-time. The last meeting was March 31, 2017, when the Lopes won 4-0.
- The Roadrunners are 9-11 on the season and are coming off a pair of wins last weekend against Pacific. CSU Bakersifled currently has a three game winning streak.
- GCU is 4-4 against Long Beach State all-time.
- LBSU is coming off of a 4-1 win over No. 16 Pepperdine and has picked up other ranked wins over No. 8 Stanford, No. 12 Cal Poly and No. 16 Stetson.
- The Lopes and Wildcats faced each other on opening weekend, when the Lopes won 4-1. GCU is 3-3 all-time against Arizona.
- Arizona is coming off of a 1-3 weekend at the Pac-12 North Invitational after falling to Oregon, No. 1 USC and No. 9 Stanford. The Wildcats picked up the 5-0 win against Utah.
LAST TIME OUT
- GCU went 2-2 in Hawaii with two wins against No. 8 Hawaii and two losses to No. 6 Loyola Marymount.
- Sophmore pair Allison Hansen and Allanis Navas picked up their 21st win on the season and currently have a 17-game win streak.
WHAT'S NEXT
- Up next, the Lopes head to Palo Alto for four games at Stanford. GCU will take on Cal, Saint Mary's, Washington and Stanford.
