After three weeks off, the Grand Canyon men's golf team is back in action as it takes on the UCSB Collegiate Invitational at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, California.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- FIVE LOPES: This tournament will feature a new lineup for the Lopes. Freshmen Matteo Cristoni and Sam Murphy will make the trip along with sophomore Craig Passmore, junior Matthew Braley and graduate Jacob Lackey.
- 14 TEAMS AND 14 INDIVIDUALS:Â The Lopes will take on 13 other teams and an additional 14 individuals for a total of 84 players. Â Â
- TWO TOURNAMENTS LEFT: The Lopes only have two remaining regular-season tournaments, including the UCSB Collegiate Invitational, to prepare for the WAC Championships. Â
UCSB COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
The tournament field includes host UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, CSUN, Dixie State, Gonzaga, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Utah State and Weber State. All 14 teams will play 54 holes over the two-day tournament. Day 1 will consist of 36 holes of stroke play, followed by a final 18 on Day 2. The Sandpiper Golf Course will be set up for a par 72 and 7,040 yards.Â

LAST TIME OUTÂ
GCU finished ninth at the Duck Invitational with Passmore jumping 10 spots to tie for 29th place at 8 over par. Braley improved 15 places after his final round of play, finishing the invitational tied for 32nd and one stroke behind Passmore with a score of 9 over par. Cristoni was only a few strokes behind Braley as he finished 10 over and tied for 35th at the Eugene Country Club. Murphy struggled in his final round of play and finished the 54-hole invitational at 13 over par.Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lopes will travel to Davis, California, for the El Macero Classic on April 20-22 for their last tournament before the WAC Championship. Â
