SEATTLE – The Grand Canyon women's tennis team opened 2022 WAC play with a 7-0 win over Seattle U on the road.
The Lopes (5-8, 1-0 WAC) were nearly perfect against the Redhawks (1-11, 0-1 WAC) winning two matches in doubles and six in singles in the first of two matches at the Seattle U Tennis Courts.
In doubles GCU won the point with wins at the top and bottom court. Junior

Santa Strombacha extended their winning streak to six matches with a 6-2 win at No. 1 while senior
Jana Weiss and freshman
Valentina Del Marco clinched the 1-0 GCU lead at court three winning 6-3. After the point was clinched, GCU senior duo
Autum Prudhomme and
Fabienne Schmidt lost a close 7-6 match at No. 2
The dominating play for GCU continued in singles taking all six courts in straight sets. Strombacha was the first to finish at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-0 win while Puehse, the reigning WAC Player of the Year, cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1. The fourth point for the dual-match win was clinched with a 6-4, 6-2 win by senior
Jana Weiss at court four.
With only four courts available for the match, Prudhomme and Del Marco had to wait until the top four matches were done but continued the strong play. Up 4-0 in the team score, Prudhomme won at No. 5 in straight sets while Del Marco put the finishing touches on the GCU win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at court six.
The Lopes will look for another win tomorrow against Dixie State. First serve will be at 9 a.m. (Phoenix time).
