The No. 10 Grand Canyon men's volleyball team will begin the final homestand of the regular season with two matches against No. 12 Stanford. After dropping a three-set loss to Concordia last week the Lopes rebounded with a 3-1 win over the Eagles on Saturday. GCU hit .265 and had four different players with double digit kills while middle blocker
Colin Lovejoy set a career-high with 10 kills.
Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN +
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- CHANCE TO MOVE UP: With four games remaining in the regular season the Lopes have a chance to improve in the conference standings before the MPSF Championship. GCU currently sit at fourth with two matches against Stanford who sits in seventh and USC who is in second place.
- OFFENSE AND DEFENSE: In a 3-1 over Concordia four players tallied double digit kills while as a team GCU recorded 12.5 blocks, the most in a four set match this season. Opposite Hugo Fischer and middle blocker Kyle Thompson each collected 10 kills and four blocks each while outside hitter Camden Gianni added another five blocks with eight kills.
- PROTECTING HOME COURT: In their first full season GCU has gone 9-3 in home matches in 2022. The nine wins are the third most in a single season and with four home matches left, the Lopes could surpass the 2012 and 2016 top mark with 11 wins.
SCOUTING
While Stanford sits at 7th in the MPSF standings with just two conference wins, the Cardinal boast wins over No. 1 UCLA and No. 5 USC. Stanford has struggled away from home this season with a 0-6 mark in true road matches and a 1-1 record in neutral site matches. Individually outside hitter Will Rottman has been the standout for Stanford with 281 kills and 3.96 kills per set good for second in the MPSF. Defensively, libero Justin Lui leads the conference with 2.35 digs per set.
WHAT'S NEXT
