EUGENE, Ore. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team finished ninth at the Duck Invitational on Tuesday with Lopes sophomore
Craig Passmore jumping 10 spots to tie for 29th place at 8 over par.
GCU junior
Matthew Braley improved 15 places after his final round of play, finishing the invitational tied for 32nd and one stroke behind Passmore with a score of 9 over par. Lopes freshman
Matteo Cristoni was only a few strokes behind Braley as he finished 10 over and tied for 35th at the Eugene Country Club.
Ireland native
Sam Murphy, a freshman, struggled in his final round of play and finished the 54-hole invitational at 13 over par.
Nicky Kling and
Tim Nielsen were the other Lopes to compete in Eugene.
Pair of Lopes rounds out top 25 on Day 1
Murphy and Cristoni are leading the Lopes in a tie or 24th with scores of 4 over par. Murphy had a tough first round, shooting 6 over par but bounced back in the second round at 2 under par. Cristoni was the opposite, as he was even on the opening round of play and struggled in the second round at the Eugene Country Club.
England native Passmore, a sophomore, finished the 36-hole day with a 6-over-par score and a tie for 39th after shooting 2 over par in his first round and 4 over in the second. Braley is one stroke behind Passmore and jumped 14 spots from his opening round to the second. Braley finished the second round 1 over par and moved him to a tie for 47th with one round to go.
The final two Lopes, Kling and Nielsen, are tied for 84th place after scoring 17 over par in their first day at the Duck Invitational.
GCU will close out the tournament Tuesday when play begins at 8:30 a.m. at Eugene Country Club.
