THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- MPSF/AVCA PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Redshirt junior outside hitter Christian Janke was nearly unstoppable against the Cougars, earning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week and American Volleyball Coaches Association  Division I-II Player of the Week honors. Janke led the Lopes and the conference in points (53), kills (52) and kills per set (5.78) and was fourth in hitting percentage (.595).
- HISTORIC PERFORMANCE: In the Lopes' dramatic five-set reverse sweep over BYU on Feb. 26, Janke had a historic performance with 31 kills on .587 hitting. The 31 kills tied the GCU single-match record that was set in 2015 and it was the first 30-kill match for GCU since 2014. In the second set, Janke had 10 kills. In the last three sets, he tallied 15 kills with just one error on .636 hitting.
- NATIONAL RANKING: After a strong performance against the Cougars, four Lopes are ranked in the top 25 nationally in seven categories. Janke and fellow outside hitter Camden Gianni are the only teammates ranked in the top 10 for kills per set with 4.00 and 3.86, respectively.
SCOUTING
UCLA held its No. 1 ranking last week with two wins against Concordia in its opening MPSF matches. The Bruins are the top-ranked team in men's volleyball for the first time since the 2016 season.The Bruins have hit for a higher percentage than their opponent in all 10 wins this season and had a season-high .478 mark at Concordia last week. UCLA owns a 7-1 record at home this season, including a 4-0 mark in Pauley Pavilion, and is 51-7 over the past six seasons in the storied arena. Ido David leads the team with 118 kills while Guy Genis has a team-high 38 blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Lopes return home for two matches against Harvard on March 12 and 13 in GCU Arena.
