The Grand Canyon women's tennis lost 7-0 to BYU on Friday morning at the GCU Tennis Facility.

The Lopes (2-6) dropped the doubles point and BYU (6-7) took five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

In doubles the Cougars took the point with wins at the bottom two courts.
Sara Rakim and
Aline Buhr lost 6-1 at court three while senior duo
Autum Prudhomme and
Fabienne Schmidt lost 6-1 at No. 2. At the top court
Natasha Puehse and
Santa Strombacha won 6-4 for their fourth win of the season.

Up 1-0, BYU pressed their advantage and took all six first sets in singles. The Cougars extended their lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Buhr at court six followed by a straight-set win over Prudhomme at No. 4. The dual-match win was clinched by BYU at the No. 1 position as Puehse fell 6-2, 6-4.

While the Cougars won the next two courts in straight sets, Strombacha was locked in a battle at No. 3. In the first set the GCU sophomore held a 4-3 lead but was forced to go to a tiebreaker and lost a close 7-5 decision to BYU's Bobo Huang. In the second set Strombacha answered with a 6-4 win to force a 10-point third set tiebreaker which was close to the very end with Huang edging out Strombacha 11-9.

The Lopes will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Tucson for a match against Arizona at 2 p.m.
